Fibromyalgia post

I’ve been trying to get this post written for a long time, but it’s something I’m a bit nervous to put out there.
First off I want to say that I realize there’s a lot of stigma and misconceptions out there whenever someone tries to talk about a negative aspect of their life.
With that being said I want to make it clear that this post isn’t to gain sympathy, pity, or anything else.
However, I constantly find myself feeling like anyone that sort of pays attention to my blog deserves an explanation as to why I’m less active from time to time.

Fibromyalgia

I have Fibromyalgia, among multiple other medical issues.
Despite these chronic health conditions I haven’t just rolled over and given up. I am always working towards my future in some way, which is another reason I feel now is an okay time to talk about this more directly.
When it comes to my health I have chosen to “fight back”. I advocate for myself, I research, and I try new things.
Currently, I have been doing Aqua Physical Therapy 2-3 times a week. I’m doing this to try to strengthen my body and to make it tolerate more physical activity.

I take care of myself and push myself because I realize that in order to be the best artist/businesswoman I can be in the future, I have to be the healthiest I can be.
I continue to go to physical therapy despite the increase in pain and exhaustion because in the long run I know it will only benefit me, my blog, and everything else I am passionate about in life.
Today’s inconvenience will be tomorrow’s strength.
All of my motivation and all of my drive comes from my deep-rooted passion for makeup.

My Time Commitments

Along with physical therapy I have doctor/ specialist appointments sprinkled in there as well.
That totals to three appointments a week, with another one bi-weekly, and others as deemed necessary.
I also work part-time & I am doing the Master Makeup Artistry program at QC Makeup Academy.
I was committing time to work on the transfer process as well. My boyfriend and I will hopefully be going to a new college in the fall!
These time commitments mixed with various symptoms of my medical issues has made juggling life with the blog more challenging.

Setting Myself Up For Failure

I want to be able to pick 2-3 days a week, say that I am for sure going to post on those days, but this is just holding me back. Whenever I miss a post for whatever reason, I feel like I have to wait for the next set day so that I don’t break the schedule again. Then this cycle repeats.
I think while I’m waiting for my body to adapt/ start tolerating physical therapy better; I’m just going to post 2-3 times a week but not on a scheduled day.
I’ll focus more on sharing my content, and producing better content instead of just trying to hit those set days.
At some point I will adopt a more fixed posting schedule, but for now I feel like trying to do so is just not working out well.

Moving Forward

I probably won’t bring up my health often in blog posts. Maybe I will if it is relevant for some reason. Oh, or if it’s some crazy tip that would help my fellow spoonies apply makeup.
I want the focus to be on my art and not my health. I’ve realized the art side of things has been lacking, but that will change as I gain more energy.

Well, if you made it to the end of this blog post, (1) you can label me impressed and (2) I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Regardless of who reads this or who doesn’t..blogging is something I will probably always enjoy doing.

Valentine's Day Snacks
Let’s not lie to ourselves: tons of people procrastinate Valentine’s Day. Some people choose not to celebrate it at all. I say you do you, whatever that may mean for you. This year my boyfriend and I are kinda doing two different celebrations and I’m kind of using the blog as an excuse for that!
This first post is an idea for a last minute (but still incredibly thoughtful and fun) Valentine’s Day.
I actually thought of this with intentions of it being for Galentine’s Day. However, I have no female friends that I could contact on such short notice, thus Keegan volunteered as tribute. Such a trooper, I swear.<3

The Break Down

For our Valentine’s Day date night-in we kept it pretty simple. We also tried to keep it fairly healthy because we haven’t been exactly eating the best.
We got take out for dinner and ate while watching a movie and joking around.
After that we did DIY Facials with avacado, coconut oil, and egg whites. This turned out way more messy than I had anticipated, thus the lack of photos. 😛
I also put out snacks for us which included Cabot White Oak Cheese and mixed fruit. For a drink, we had some champagne that we mixed with juice. He doesn’t like the taste of alcohol, and I just prefer anything other than wine, and/or champagne I guess.
By this time we switched back to binge watching House for the rest of the night, which we are, regrettably, almost finished! 🙁

Dinner

Valentine's Day DInner Sushi

Dinner was delicious, however neither of us finished what we ordered. Lots of Sushi means tons of rice, so we got full pretty fast.

More Last Minute Ideas

Still need some last minute inspiration? Here’s some ideas that I think would be fun:

1. Make a Pinterest board of DIY facial recipes and have your guests pick out a few in advance. Quickly pick up the ingredients from the store, along with whatever snacks they would like. Sip Cocktails and do facials.

2. Take your Galentine or Valentine out for a nice Mani/Pedi. This isn’t something I personally would do because I rather do them at home.

3. Make a Pinterest board full of food ideas. Then, either have them pick out a dish and make it for them or pick out a dish together, cook it together, and (most importantly) enjoy it together!

4.  Find a new show to binge on Netflix together for the entire night. Keegan & I would highly recommend Santa Clarita Diet, or House. Santa Clarita Diet sounds like a dumb show, but I assure you that the title is misleading. This new Netflix Original is awesome!

5. If you are in an area where this is an option, go outdoors and play in the snow like kids again! I know in Vermont we are getting more snow than we’ve gotten in years right now. I personally don’t like the cold, but this amount of snow makes everything so much more gorgeous than it already is. The other night we couldn’t resist going outside and enjoying the snow for a bit.

6. My last date night idea is what we have planned for tonight (weather permitting), which is dinner and a movie. Sounds lame and super simple but we prefer to think of it as a time-tested classic. Keegan and I have never been big on gifts. If we want something we get it when we can afford it. We much rather spend time enjoying each other’s company while doing things we find fun.  Fool proof idea: take your Galentine or Valentine to their favorite restaurant and then hit up Fifty Shades Darker!

Lately, I’ve felt like my blog has become a little impersonal. I know a lot of people like to know the person beyond the art. For this reason, every once in a while I’m going to just sit down and write more of a journal-entry type of post to fill you guys in on life and any upcoming blog changes.

January

The beginning of January was quite busy for me due to an event I had to attend and two birthdays to celebrate. This month was also exciting because I started working on the blog big-time again, which is something I enjoy a lot. Running a blog is way more than just writing content, after all; there’s a ton of stuff that goes on behind the scenes that many people don’t realize, SEO for example. All of these tedious things seem to keep my mind busy and happy.

However, there are a lot of things I have to remember how to do, so getting used to doing everything all over again has been interesting to juggle.

Also, in January I became a student at QC Makeup Academy. This is something I am super excited about. If you guys want more information on that one, like why I decided to pursue this program and what my future plans are…well that’s enough for it’s own blog post, so you’ll just have to wait! 😉

Blog Changes

I have recently decided that the blog will slowly undergo a few changes. First off the color scheme and header/logo will be completely different. This won’t happen right away because I have an image in my head that might end up being hard to get, but I am determined to get what I want. Ultimately, I want the blog to represent my true character a little bit more than what it does right now.

I also desperately need to update my sidebar/profile pictures everywhere. That’s been a work in progress because I’ve been picky. I want to replace it with something with which I’ll be happy for a while, not something that’ll serve as a short-term placeholder.

My posting frequency will also be picking up significantly from what it has been lately. I want to commit myself to Wednesdays and Fridays for sure. Mondays will be thrown in when I am able. I will always be active on social media daily, though I do want to be more consistent on other platforms as well.

I think the last change that I want to mention is that the blog now has an editor! A trusted friend from college has offered to edit the blog for me. I am no longer the only person that has backdoor access!

I have a few other ideas up my sleeve but I think I’m going to keep those a secret for right now.
Let me know what you guys think, and also tell me about your own blogging goals for this year! I read, respond, and check out any blog links left down in the comments. 🙂

i'm back

I genuinely don’t know how to start this, and I’m not sure what I am going to say. I am sure this post will be edited a million times over before it even goes up. I’ve come to the final conclusion that I just need to post this and move forward.
Tomorrow is my birthday. I will be turning 21 years old. A few days after that 2016 will come to a close.
Lets just say that 2016 is a year I am more than ready to leave behind.
The blog started off great, and it built up success rather quickly.
Then, one thing after another, life continued taking me to my knees. Loss hit hard multiple times & the blog is where it showed the most.
When I started the blog I swore to myself that school would always come first. Education has always been my primary focus in life. So, when different life events started taking their toll on me… I decided I needed to be on my A-game for school, but I didn’t have enough energy for both school and the blog. Something had to give, and even if it was a sacrifice I wasn’t happy about, I had to put the blog on hold.
Don’t get me wrong…I did enjoy my classes thoroughly. I’m a nerd.
But I wish I had been capable of doing both.

I am taking the spring and summer off from school before transferring.
This means I fully intend to start pouring myself back into this.

Blogging Tips

I started blogging in the beginning of March, and it is now approaching the end of June. In the last couple of months I have learned so much when it comes to the world of blogging, and creating good content. I wanted to write this little post up to try and fill you all in on where I am at when it comes to blogging. I also figured I would throw out some tips that could possibly help those who are thinking about starting a blog themselves, because it can be a bit overwhelming at first.

Blogging Is Much More Than Just Writing & Publishing Posts

I knew when I started out blogging that there was a lot more to it than just posting my work up on a website, but I didn’t really know the extent of work I could choose to put in. For me this is a great thing, for others this could be the deal breaker when it comes to deciding whether or not they want to start a blog. I love how much control I have over my site, what I post, SEO, pretty much every aspect is up to me, and I really like that. No one can tell me what to post, what to say, or how to say it. I can customize and make my blog look however I want it to.

& by this I don’t mean to sound bratty, or like “EVERYTHING IS ALL MINE” what I do mean is that it can become whatever I want it to be based off of the time and effort I am willing to put in. I’m not held back by any rules or requirements that someone else has placed upon me, i.e. a teacher or a boss. There is a lot of freedom when it comes to starting a blog, and it’s empowering.

Pinterest & Other Bloggers Are Great Resources

Need to find out more information on how to improve your SEO? Don’t know much about self-hosting your own blog? Just need tips and tricks about creating great content? Two of the best resources I have found have been other bloggers and Pinterest. Okay, well technically it’s bloggers posting their work on Pinterest but you get the point. 😛 Fellow bloggers know the ropes when it comes to pretty much anything blog related. I created a Pinterest Board just for resources I can look back at whenever I want, and it has benefited me A LOT.

Here is a list of some blogs that I go to whenever I want feedback or help:

        Pictures Matter

I am continuously trying to improve my photography skills, and add new props to my pictures to keep things interesting. Pictures are a big deal when it comes to blogging.  lot. Many readers pick the posts they plan to read based on the quality of the featured image. It’s similar to judging a book off of it’s cover. People are drawn to things that are visually appealing. I have noticed that the more improvements I make to my pictures/flat lays, the better my views are. Getting creative with props has been fun for me, but it has also benefited the blog when it comes to views. PS. craft stores can be great places to find the cutest props. 😉

Have Fun With It

I absolutely love my blog and I have a lot of fun creating and publishing content. I enjoy every aspect of what I am doing, and that’s really important. If I didn’t have fun doing this, what would be the point? Currently, I’m not making any money off of blogging… actually it costs money to create and maintain a self-hosted blog. Money well spent in my opinion. 🙂 Anyway, have fun with blogging, otherwise there’s no point in putting in so much time and effort. Especially if your content ends up relaying to your readers that your heart isn’t fully in it. If you enjoy blogging, but not what you are blogging about, then switch it up and try something new.

On a different note, I think my next post will be about hair-care.  I recently picked up some new hair-care products. As soon as I get my hair back to normal, I will start posting makeup looks again. I didn’t enjoy having dark hair, and it really zapped the inspiration right out of me. My hair is taking a toll because I had to have it bleached to get it light enough to go back to my natural color. To stay up to date with these kind of “life events” (real world problems right?? ;P) you can follow me over at twitter right hereeeee.
